About the Business: Pete Smith Surf Shop, established in 1963, is a historic surf shop in Cape May, New Jersey that has been a cornerstone of East Coast surf culture for decades. The shop carries a wide variety of surfboards, wetsuits, and other beach gear, and it hosts an authentic, laid-back vibe that celebrates the spirit of the sea.
What I Do: I worked at Pete Smith Surf Shop from 2019 to 2021, where I was responsible for customer service and sales. Over time, I began offering to take photos for their social media, capturing the energy of the shop, clothes, and surfing accessories. This quickly became a larger role, and I regularly contributed to the shop’s Instagram and Facebook accounts, helping them build a stronger online presence. My photos helped showcase the shop’s unique vibe, driving engagement and fostering connections with the surfing community.

About the Business: Chez Michel is a cozy, family-owned French bakery in West Cape May, known for its handcrafted pastries and authentic French recipes. Michel Gras, the owner and a classically trained French baker, has been baking for over 40 years, earning a reputation for quality and craftsmanship.
What I Do: I started working at Chez Michel in 2022 as a counter staff member, where I assisted with customer service, packaging baked goods, and managing the till. As I became more involved, I offered to help with their social media efforts. Over time, I contributed photography for their online presence, capturing the bakery’s delicious products and inviting atmosphere. My role grew to include managing their social media accounts, increasing followers and engagement, and creating a visual identity that connected the bakery with the local community.
